Did you know we are one of the very few pharmacies in Pennsylvania to provide vaccines to children between 6 months to 3 years of age? With the support of Montgomery County Office of Public Health, Montgomery County Immunization Coalition and community nurses like Wendy (seen in the picture), we have been able to provide thousands of little one’s their vaccines in our kid-friendly immunization center and out in the community. We’ve recently added our friend, Buzzy, seen here, as a distraction device for kids (and adults) 🐝 Find more about our upcoming babies/kids clinics on our website: www.SkippackPharmacy.com/ToddlerVaccines
Pottstown, see you today! We’ve partnered with @communityheropa to provide a variety of vaccines at today’s community wellness event at the First Baptist Church. We have been privileged to work with numerous organizations to provide wellness services that decrease disparities in health and wealth and ecstatic to do our first event with Community Hero Action Group who does just that with the African American community. The event is from 10:30a-1:00p and open to all.#community #outreach #wellness
“It has been a whirlwind of a day. YOU have been the calm in my storm. Thank you for accepting us as patients and for understanding my urgency. Not one other physician today has done as much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”Many things have and will change over time but the level of 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒅𝒆.#YouveHadOurBack #WeveGotYours #PositiveVibes
𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮....with my little one on my lap on my day off, I called a patient of mine. The good - I have found a solution to help you save money on your insulin. In fact, if you get 2 boxes of the insulin at a time, you'll save half of what you were paying before. The bad - if I fill your insulin at our pharmacy, I'd lose over $120 every time I fill the medication."Dr. Mak, thank you for letting us know. This is why we switched to you in the first place as I know you truly care about your patients and are honest with us. I can't believe this happens where our insurance won't pay you to cover the cost of the medication, let alone will underpay you. How can you stay open paying staff, electric, and everything else while losing money on medications? Something needs to change."Mr. K is right, something does need to change. As an independent pharmacy owner and a patient advocate, I was jumping in joy when the President announced that seniors would no longer have to pay more than $35 per month for a life-critical medication, their insulin. All this time, I'm sure many thought that big pharma was unreasonable for the high cost of medications. It was not until I owned a pharmacy that I realized this was not truly the case.Although I have crossed my fingers and continue to pray that something will change, reimbursements from insurance companies continue to plummet at unfair rates that hinder our ability to provide patient care. When I went to refill this patient's medication, I saw the red line and red circle...another profit loss (-$120.92). Should I just fill it this time or should I inform the patient about what is happening and see if he could fill it at the CVS down the street?I decided the latter and the patient was thankful and said he would get this one medication filled there but would continue to get the rest through us. To patients that continue to believe, trust, support, and choose local even when we have to navigate through murky waters - thank you.If there is ever a time where we ask if you can pick up XYZ medication at the nearby chain - please know we would love to fill it for you but we want to stay open for you. That cannot happen if we continue to fill medications at a loss.Federal Trade Commission, we hope you look into some of the many unfair practices which could jeopardize many small pharmacies' livelihood and patient access to personalized quality care down the road.CC: APhA - American Pharmacists Association, National Community Pharmacists Association-Dr Mak
Hi Saint Joseph's University (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy) graduating pharmacy students!Dr. Mak (Mayank Amin) makes his way back to campus this Friday March 17th to speak about leadership and the journey he took to reopen Skippack Pharmacy & co-lead our COVID Task Force’s vaccine efforts. If you will be attending the leadership panel and have a question, drop it below 👇🏽
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴!To anyone who knows our pharmacy, they know students have played a vital role since the day we opened. While many students come in through our doors to learn, they bring in their creativity, knowledge, and experiences to improve our pharmacy’s services and offerings, implement new ideas, and in turn improve patient health outcomes. We are ecstatic that five of our past & current interns who applied, matched to post-graduate training programs either in residencies with hospitals/health systems or fellowships with pharmaceutical companies. While we will miss each dearly, we know that they will be an asset to the teams they will be helping next & can’t wait to see them progress, help more patients, and revitalize pharmacy in each avenue they take.𝑊𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢, 𝑠𝑜𝑜𝑛-𝑡𝑜-𝑏𝑒, 𝐷𝑟.’𝑠:Grace Bringhurst, Temple University School of PharmacyJocelyn Edwards, University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Izzy Lawler, Thomas Jefferson University Philip Mathew, University of Pittsburgh School of PharmacyKishan Patel, Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy
Imagine the scene. You are a working single parent, tired from your 12-hour shift at the office and ready to head home for the day. As you start mentally checking off your errands, you suddenly recall that your son was almost out of his ADHD medication. While the pharmacy is on the way home, you know that you’ll need to call ahead to have the order ready on time. You’re pulling up the pharmacy’s number when you suddenly get a new notification that stops you in your tracks – “FDA ANNOUNCES ADDERALL SHORTAGE,” reports the New York Times… more on today’s blog: https://www.skippackpharmacy.com/adderall-shortage/—We’ve received numerous calls from patients in our community asking if we have certain ADHD medications in stock. To allow our team to better serve you, all product-related questions regarding availability of ADHD medications will be addressed through our online request form found on: www.SkippackPharmacy.com/Shortages [our in-store team will no longer be able to provide availability of controlled substances over the phone]

𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰!Hello to all of my daddy’s pharmacy friends and patients. I’m excited to be here!My brother, little Superman, Jayce, was born in the middle of a very scary time called the pandemic where he heard about so many of you superheroes who helped or supported my daddy; yes, that crazy pharmacist who dressed up in a Superman costume.I’m glad those days are almost gone, excited to soon see your faces, be able to meet you, and am ready to celebrate!I might have to hog him for a little bit so you may not see him as much although I’m sure he’ll be sharing lots of stories with me. In the meanwhile, just wanted to stop by and say hello!Love, Baby Zayna
Hi 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 members! As of March 1, we are now in-network to provide you at-home COVID19 tests at no out of pocket cost to you. We apologize we had to defer many of you to Walgreens (who is now currently out of stock of these tests). We were persistent over the past year and with the help of some friends, finally got us in network.Although the Public Health Emergency and funding for many COVID-19 services including tests ends May 11, 2023, we will be able to get you these tests either in person or shipped to you at no cost. Current tests we are providing expire 10/2023 or 11/2023.We will continue providing these tests to patients with other plans, as well. If there is an uninsured patient in need, we’ve got you covered, too (just message us).Order online: www.SkippackPharmacy.com/NoCostAtHomeTest or walk in to the pharmacy & we’ll process them on the spot.
You’ve seen her at our vaccine clinics, in the pharmacy, and around the community and now, in the last few months before she gets her Doctorate of Pharmacy, Izzy is working on a special project that will help educate patients with diabetes. She recently attended a training program through PPCN at the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association conference and is paving the path for Skippack Pharmacy to be an accredited diabetes education site. See what she has to say:“Hi Pharm Fam. It Izzy, your favorite Skippack Pharmacy intern! Last week I had the opportunity to attend PPA’s annual conference, a place full of people who went into pharmacy to help change it for the better. I chose pharmacy with the intent to make waves, be a catalyst for change and a voice for our community’s patients. Through clinical initiatives including vaccinations and testing during COVID and now the changeover to providing additional services to our community, I have been able to lead new initiatives. During the conference I had the chance to educate myself on different initiatives to bring back to the community I love, Skippack & Montgomery County. One of those initiatives being a Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Program which will be launching soon. This program will help educate patients with diabetes to take control of their disease rather than let it control them. Its often tough to navigate through many health initiatives alone and why independent pharmacies like Skippack Pharmacy were created to provide you a helping hand and someone who can truly be by your side on your journey to better health. If there’s something you’d like our team at Skippack to do (new or better), send me a message at isabelle@skippackpharmacy.com. While it is important for me to advocate for you at the pharmacy, it is equally important for me to advocate for mom & pop pharmacies like Skippack so they can continue to provide customized care to you not just during the pandemic or in an emergency but be here for the long run!”
Philip Mathew, AKA Phil the Pharmacy Student, joined our team as an APPE student from University of Pittsburgh / University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy just over two weeks ago. This weekend, he was able to join our team in the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association conference and learn about opportunities to grow our pharmacy’s services. Here’s what Phil had to say: “Hi everyone, Phil the Pharmacy student here. I’ve been so fortunate to rotate with Skippack Pharmacy for over 2 weeks now. It is an incredibly exciting time to be at Skippack - we’ve been transforming our services as a health hub. I’ve been at the forefront of our new vaccine campaign to make sure everyone who comes to the pharmacy stays up-to-date on all of their needed vaccines. At PPA, I was able to review the latest guidelines for vaccines and understand the opportunities for new clinical services at independent pharmacies. I’m hoping to bring some of this knowledge back and work with Dr. Mak to implement and re-introduce services like diabetes management, smoking cessation, and point of care testing. I I was able to attend the Pharmacy Entrepreneurship session and gained some great tips on developing a brand while overcoming obstacles along the way. Having gone through pharmacy school in the midst of the global pandemic, I've learned that the only thing consistent in pharmacy is change. It wasn’t long before I arrived to Skippack when I saw that Skippack Pharmacy is a catalyst for change: as the pharmacy turns the page in the fight against COVID-19, you can be assured that Skippack still has your back. We are providing guidance on how to navigate changes that will occur in the next few months, so don’t forget to follow us and stay tuned. I'm so grateful I was able to see old friends and make new memories, thanks to Skippack Pharmacy!"
Current Perkiomen Valley High School senior, David, came on our team less than 6 months ago to assist our team with the growth of our robust at-home clinical tests program. This weekend he was likely the youngest to partake in the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association conference in Lancaster where pharmacy students, technicians, and pharmacists gathered to discuss and learn new ideas to help improve pharmacy in PA. He is a prime example of why we focus on our youth at Skippack Pharmacy. Our goal is to give our students wings & encourage them to break barriers, think outside the box, and work smart to help combat some of our communities every day healthcare problems. Here is what David had to say, “Hi Skippack Community, I am David and a future pharmacy student. At the PPA conference I learned about Pharmacy Entrepreneurship. Specifically, how we as a community pharmacy can provide services to our customers that they can’t find elsewhere. The conference provided insight on how to implement these services into practice to help better our community. It was a great experience that I am thankful to have the opportunity to attend, learn, and be able to implement at Skippack Pharmacy.”

Thank you, Governor Tom Wolf for supporting our pharmacy and community’s efforts during the pandemic. Kindness and flair is the aspect of patient care we are striving to put back into and keep in pharmacy. As the page flips and we move onto a new chapter, today, our new Governor gets inaugurated. We are honored that we had the support of incoming Governor Josh Shapiro and his wife during our vaccination efforts & we hope to extend and strengthen that friendship over the next 4 years. Our efforts to fight COVID-19 have now become autopilot; however, we hope our message of community and small businesses serving an important role in the fabric of a community are not washed away. These next months and years will determine if/how independent pharmacies will be able to continue to serve our community and Commonwealth beyond the pandemic and we are thankful for your support.📷: Hannah Beier ( Reuters )

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬.“Hi Dr. Mak, don’t worry about refilling those other medications. I don’t have enough money until next month.” Hearing those words from anyone hurts our hearts just as much it would hurt a food pantry who hears someone doesn’t have enough money to buy food for their family.Of course, we filled all of her medications and dropped them off telling her not to worry about the costs and that she wasn’t going to be without meds.As we dropped off the meds, a handwritten card was there awaiting. Sitting back in the car, we opened the card, and the message reminded us that the holidays isn’t about receiving, it’s about giving. The joy in giving brings a warmth to your heart and reminds us of our purpose to serve.#InTheJoyofOthers
